Ruth A. Chmura's Obituary
Ruth A. Chmura, age 99, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2020 – just two weeks shy of her 100th birthday. She was born October 22, 1920 in Muskegon Heights, MI to Albert F. and Helena (LaRose) Lundeen. Ruth graduated in 1941 from Mercy Central School of Nursing. She proudly served our country during WWII as a captain in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps from 1941-46 during the China, Burma, India Theatre. Ruth was a Registered Nurse at Mercy Hospital for over 35 years and retired in 1985. She proudly honored her sisterhood of nurses at funerals by serving as a member of the Mercy Central School of Nursing Color Guard. On August 20, 1949, she married Bruno J. Chmura in Muskegon. Together they shared their life with five children, Phillip, Virginia “Ginny” Spenner, Barb (Richard) Langlois, Michael (Marlene) Chmura, Maggie Carlson; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruno in 2006; her son, Phillip in 2017; her parents; 3 brothers and 1 sister. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, October 12, 2020 at her home parish St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (1716 Sixth St.) with Rev. Charles D. Hall presiding. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery with Military Honors offered by the Grand Haven American Legion Post #28 Honor Guard and active members of the U.S. Army National Guard. Visitation will be held 2-5 PM Sunday, October 11, 2020 at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W Sherman Blvd, Muskegon, MI 49441.
