Ruth E. "Betty" Fairris' Obituary
Ruth E. “Betty” Fairris, age 91, entered into her final rest on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. She was born August 7, 1927 in Muskegon to Kenneth and Katherine (Cartwright) Barr. On December 24, 1943, she married James Lee Fairris, Sr. in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on September 19, 1992. Ruth graduated from Muskegon High School and Grand Rapids Junior College, school of Practical Nursing. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for nearly 40 years, retiring from Dr. Robert Heneveld’s office in 1980. She was active in her Nursing Association, where she served as President for 4 years. She was also active in Crestwood United Methodist Church, Boy Scouts, and the Red Cross. Ruth is survived by her son, Ronald Fairris of Shelby; daughter, Patricia Bowler of Shelby; daughter-in-law, Veronica Fairris of Muskegon; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and best friend, Betty Ohs. She was also preceded in death by 2 sons: James L. Fairris, Jr. and Robert Fairris; 2 brothers: Kenneth and Robert Barr; and sister, Katherine L. Falco. SERVICES for Betty will be held 11:00 AM Monday, January 5, 2019 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., (231) 726-5210, with Pastor Jennifer Wheeler officiating. VISITATION will be from 2-4 PM on Sunday, January 6, 2019 and also one hour prior to the service Monday morning. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Crestwood United Methodist Church or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will be appreciated.
