Mrs. Ruth I. Jarvi's Obituary
Mrs. Ruth I. Jarvi, age 87, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015. She was born in National Mine, MI on August 16, 1927 to Emil and Jennie (Hankanen) Manty. Ruth was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, a member of the Finnish-American Society, and volunteered for numerous Fruitport elections and at Hackley Hospital. She was an avid cook and especially enjoyed cooking for her family. On April 6, 1946, Ruth married Arvo W. Jarvi in Marquette, MI and he preceded her in death on May 10, 2001. She is survived by three sons, William (Jeanne) Jarvi, Gary (Beverly) Jarvi and Richard (Judy) Jarvi; five grandchildren, Bonnie (Pete) Haub, Susan (Mike) Jaris, Jeff (Sam) Weathers, Jeannie (Pat) Marks, and James Jarvi; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Jean Grabowski and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Ruth Jarvi; her parents; three brothers, Martin Manty, Woody Manty and Walter Manty; and two sisters, Ina Carlson and Mildred Bertucci. SERVICES will be 2:00 PM Saturday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100 with Pastor Paula Reames officiating. VISITATION will be from 6-8 PM Friday and one hour prior to her service on Saturday. Burial will be in Mona View Cemetery. MEMORIALS may be made to Harbor Hospice.
