Ruth E. Johnston's Obituary
Mrs. Ruth E. Johnston, age 94, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 in Muskegon. She was born on August 8, 1921 in Muskegon to Joseph and Elizabeth (Dresch) Christ, and resided in the area all of her life. Ruth was a very active member of First Church of the Nazarene (now Breakwater Church of the Nazarene) in Norton Shores, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Ruth worked at Kroger Grocery Store for many years, before retiring in 1975. She loved working in her flower garden, and also enjoyed photography. On June 1, 1940, she married George Johnston, and he preceded her in death on August 13, 1989. SURVIVORS include her daughter, Betty Johnston Singh of Baton Rouge, LA; her son, George Johnston of San Francisco, CA; her grandson, Al Singh; nephews and niece, Patrick (Barbara) Howard and son Nick, Michael Howard, and Kathleen (Jim) Howard Witham; and special friend, Nancy Wilkinson. Ruth was also preceded in death by her baby brother, James; and sister, Edith Howard. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11AM Saturday, February 6 at Breakwater Church of the Nazarene (1150 Seminole Rd.) with Pastors Devin and Aimee Mulder officiating. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service, from 10-11 AM. Burial will take place in Restlawn Cemetery.
