Ruth Kelly's Obituary
Ruth (Hasselbacher) Kelly, age 94, of Spring Lake passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018 in Grand Haven to be with her Lord and Savior.
Ruth was born January 12, 1924 to Joseph and Minnie (Shane) of Brimfield, IL. She married Ken Kelly Sept. 14, 1946 in the home of Harold and Edna McNay of Des Plaines, IL.
She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Kenneth Kelly; sons: Roger (Shelly) Kelly, Rich (Barb) Kelly, and Scott (Deb) Kelly; grandchildren, Ken Kelly; Gina (Ken Vis) Kelly-Vis, Asa (Traci) Kelly, Carly (Drew) Scholtz, Nicole (Scott) Goldberg, Michael (Denise) Kelly, Leanna Kelly and Ryan Casemier; eleven great-grandchildren; special niece, Mary Dee VanVels; brothers-in-law, Larry (Sandy) Kelly and Lowell Kelly and sister-in-law, Dorothy Kempker. Ruth will be missed by her church family at the United Methodist Church of the Dunes, where she and Ken were members for 65+ years. They formed life-long friendships, golf partners and travelling companions. Ruth was a skilled and avid knitter and used her talent for the prayer shawl ministry and well as creating many items for the numerous craft bazaars she supported over the years. She also served as past president of UMW-United Methodist Church of the Dunes.
Ruth had a passion for golf and played on leagues for many years, and she served as past president for the Grand Haven Ladies Golf Association at Grand Haven Golf Club. Ruth was also an MSU fan and shamelessly cheered for the Spartans.
Ruth served whole heartedly in different roles at the American Legion Charles Conklin Post 28, including past president of the Legion Auxiliary, past La Chapeau of 8 & 40 Salon 499. She was a Life Member of VFW Auxiliary #2326 and during WWII served as USO Jr. Hostess in Chicago, where she met her future husband, Ken.
The celebration of Ruth’s life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the United Methodist Church of the Dunes, (717 Sheldon Rd, Grand Haven, MI). Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion Post 28. Memorial contributions in memory of Ruth may be given to Hospice of North Ottawa Community (1061 S.
