Ruth Mulder's Obituary
Ruth Mulder was peacefully welcomed into the arms of Jesus Christ her Savior on July 24, 2022, at the age of 80. She was born to Arnold and Jessie Hulst on August 27, 1941, in Grand Rapids, MI. She met her husband Jim while attending Grand Rapids Christian High School. They were married on June 1, 1962, and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Ruth enjoyed boating with her husband around west Michigan and cruising Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. She was an avid beachgoer, often stopping on her way home from work to enjoy the sun. Ruth was an enthusiastic high school soccer fan, attending hundreds of games to watch her sons and grandsons play. Ruth was a woman of strong and active faith. Throughout her life she was heavily engaged in ministry and discipleship, including leadership in the Bible studies “Connections” and “Coffee Break Fellowship.” After raising her children in Spring Lake, MI, Ruth worked 10 years as a secretary at International Aid. She left that position to become the Administrative Secretary at her home church, Second Christian Reformed Church of Grand Haven. She served there for 22 years and became the welcoming face and voice of the church. She thrived in her work and was indispensable to clergy and laity alike. She retired from Second CRC in June 2021. Since that time, she and Jim have enjoyed spending extra time together at home and traveling to visit family. Preceding Ruth in death are her parents, brother Rev. Dr. John B. (Louise) Hulst, sister Alice (Don) Pruis, and brother William (Edna) Hulst. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Jim and by her children: Steve (Erin) Mulder and children, William, and Grace; Lisa (Scott) Alfree and children, Abbie, Owen, and Charlie; and Jon (Renee) Mulder and children Malachi and Jack. She is also survived by sister-in-law Edna Hulst, and several nieces and nephews. VISITATION with the family will be on Tuesday, August 2, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at The Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 213 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake, MI 49456. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held on Wednesday, August 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Second Christian Reformed Church of Grand Haven, MI. Rev. Ed Tamminga will officiate, assisted by Rev. Laura de Jong. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grand Haven Christian School, Love in Action, or Harbor Hospice. Share memories with the family and sign the online guestbook at http://www.sytsemafh.com.
