Ruth C. Stevens' Obituary
Ruth C. Stevens, age 90, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born September 15, 1929 in Muskegon, MI to Francis and Cecilia (LaRoque) Martin and was a lifetime resident. Ruth worked 5 years as a phlebotomist at Hackley Hospital. After her marriage to Howard C. Stevens, Jr. on September 19, 1953, she raised her family and enjoyed being a homemaker. Ruth was a member of St. Jean de Baptiste Catholic Church and St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. She was also a member of St. Ann’s Society and sang in the church choir at St. Jean’s. Ruth was devoted to Eucharistic Adoration and enjoyed her Wednesday morning prayer group. She played flute for the Muskegon Symphonic Band and was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s. Survivors include 9 children, Molly (Tom) Wahr, Debora (Wayne) Bergstrom, Denise (Gary) Dunn, Anne (Louis) Langlois, Margaret (Scott) Nestell, Jeanne (Tom Rubinger) Stevens, Martin (Monica) Stevens, Jill (Chris) Lamrock, Rita (Brian) Olejarczyk; 24 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Joe (Kathy) Martin, Don Martin, Dan Martin; 2 sisters, Mary (John) Allen, Sue (Charlie) Brown; and special caregivers. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Howard C. Stevens, 2 children, John and Louise Stevens, her parents, 2 brothers, Robert and Thomas Martin and 2 sisters, Therese Smith and Joan Harker. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, October 21, 2019 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (2929 McCracken St.) with Fr. Charles D. Hall presiding. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Sunday with the Rosary at 7:30 PM at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W Sherman Blvd, Muskegon, MI 49441.
