Ruth A. Van Dam's Obituary
Mrs. Ruth A. VanDam, age 73, passed away early morning Monday, October 14, 2019. She was born on November 20, 1945 in Muskegon, MI to John and Rebecca (Harrison) Middlecamp, and resided in the area all of her life. She was a dedicated employee to GTE telephone company, where she worked for almost 30 years. She also worked at Dick Dykehouse for more than 15 years as well. On May 31, 1980 she married Wesley Van Dam and together they cherished 36 years together. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2017. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Muskegon, there she belonged to three different craft groups. Ruth was known to be a master craftsman and even went so far as to make products that were sent to women in Africa. She enjoyed spending time at Lake Michigan, you could usually find her taking walks while admiring the sunset. Above all things, she loved her friends and family. She will forever be remembered for her stubbornness and strong-willed personality. Ruth was a selfless and loving soul that will truly be missed. She is survived by her seven children, Rebecca (Bill) Boss of Muskegon, Darnell (Kim) Hutchinson of Muskegon, Jack (Vicki) VanDam of Florida, Greg (Nathalie) VanDam of Muskegon, Terry (Gary) Berson of Muskegon, Michael (Cherie) VanDam of Muskegon, Steve (Deborah) VanDam of Florida; brother-in-law, Bradley Geeting of Fremont, 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Grace (Victor) Monczynski of West Bloomfield and Sharie Geeting of Fremont. Memorial contributions in Ruth’s honor may be directed to Faith Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church. A Funeral Service will be at 4:00PM Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3225 Roosevelt Rd., Muskegon, MI 49441. Visitation with the family will be one-hour prior at the church.
