Ruth Jean Zimmer's Obituary
Ruth Jean Zimmer, age 98, of Nunica passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Christian Care Assisted Living. She was born July 3, 1927, (really on July 4, 1927) to Jacob and Rebecca (Bishop) Wierenga. She married Lowell Jefferson Zimmer on August 18, 1945, in Spring Lake, MI. Lowell preceded her in death on December 2, 2013.
Ruth worked at Grand Haven Brass for twenty-seven years. She and Lowell were members of Good Sams Camping Club. Ruth was a devoted Detroit Lions and University of Michigan football fan. She also loved golfing, bowling, square dancing, and traveling. Most of all she loved Jesus, and her family.
Ruth is lovingly remembered by her son, Thomas “Tom” (Mary Ann) Zimmer; three grandchildren: Nikki, Wendy, and Shawn; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Robert Wierenga. She was preceded in death by a son, Dave Zimmer in 2007, daughter-in-law, Teri in 2013, two sisters, Doris “Dorrie” Trinker and Gertrude “Trudy” Farrar, and two brothers, Jacob “Bud” Wierenga and Kenneth Wierenga, grandson, Jesse Lee Zimmer, and great-granddaughter, Bethann Marie Zimmer.
A funeral for Ruth will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2026, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Memorials to the American Cancer Society are appreciated. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery.
