Ruth A. Eckles' Obituary
Mrs. Ruth A. Eckles, age 89, died Monday, June 28, 2004, at Luther Home of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was born in Lafayette, Indiana on December 18, 1914 to Lewis & Bessie Kantz. She had made Muskegon her home since 1944. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles G. Evans in 1952 and John J. Eckles in 1987 along with her parents, brother, Eugene Kantz, and sisters, Mildred Hodson and Dorothy Evans. Mrs. Eckles was a longtime member of Lakeside United Methodist Church and the Professional Secretaries Association, honored as “Secretary of the Year” in 1973. She was employed as an executive secretary at Bennett Pump, Norge, and retired in 1982 from Brunswick. She is survived by her son, Bob (Durelle) Evans of Grand Rapids; 2 granddaughters, Kristen (Gary) Barrett of Wixom, MI and Kathleen (Thomas) DeYoung of Grand Rapids along with 5 great-grandchildren: Kate, Daniel, Julia Barrett, and Andrew and Megan DeYoung; 1 brother, Lewis “Bud” Kantz and his wife, Anne, of Chicago, IL; and several nephews, nieces and their families. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, July 1, 2004 at Lakeside United Methodist Church (2160 Crozier Ave.) with Pastor Dave Selleck officiating. INTERMENT will take place at Mona View Cemetery. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service, 1-2 PM Thursday, at the church.
