Ruth M. Riley's Obituary
Mrs. Ruth M. Riley, age 84, passed away very suddenly on Friday, March 26, 2004. She was born January 20, 1920 in East Detroit, MI to Louis and Adele (Koehn) Volkenant and lived in the Muskegon area most of her adult life. On July 26, 1941, she married John W. Riley, Jr. in Mt. Clemens, MI and he preceded her in death on March 16, 1999. She had been a homemaker, but worked in shipping for Shaw-Walker Co. for 7 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in the Altar Guild and the Mary Martha Circle. She and her husband had also been active in the Muskegon Rock and Mineral Association. SURVIVORS include 2 daughters, Kathleen (Bryan) Swenson of Henderson, MN, Cynthia (David) Higgins of Grand Rapids; 8 grandchildren, Miranda and Michael Burns, Christopher, Stephanie, Brennan, Jared, Timothy, and Andrew Higgins; 2 step-grandchildren, Frederick and Danielle Swenson; and 1 brother, Ray (Ruth) Volkenant of Macomb, MI. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Betty Koltys in 1999, and 2 nieces, Carla Briel in 1975 and Karen Rossow in 2001. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church (3225 Roosevelt Road) with Rev. Dennis Lassanske officiating. INTERMENT will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION with Ruth’s family will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 1547 W.
