Ruth Mae Porter's Obituary
Ruth Mae Porter, age 82, of Grand Haven passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2010, at a local care facility. She was born May 26, 1929, in Newberry, MI to Ben and Mary (Fox) Sands, and she married John F. Porter on February 16, 1946 in Newberry. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1994.
Ruth was employed by Michigan Plastic Products Company as a quality inspector for 34 years. She was a cashier for 12 years at Goodwill, and sold antiques at various area antique malls. Ruth was a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indian Tribe, enjoyed reading, time at the Casinos, and her cats.
She is lovingly remembered by her 2 daughters, Gilda (Keith) Allen and Sandra Swiftney, both of Grand Haven; a son, Jack (special friend, Mary Ellen Grabowski) Porter of Norton Shores; 4 grandchildren: Chad Allen, Andrianna Broeman, Abbie Smant, and Bryce Porter; 5 great-grandchildren: Carllee, Abbey, & Mallory Allen, and Kayla & Keegan Smant; 2 sisters, Norma Chambers and Charlotte (Charles) Moore, both of Newberry, MI; and 1 brother, John (special friend, Reva Gardener) Sands of Hart, MI. She was preceded in death by her son, Gerald Porter; grandson, Shane Swiftney; a sister, Rose Chambers, and her 2 brothers, James Mashka and Gordon Wabsey.
The Funeral Service for Ruth will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 20, 2011, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Daniel Anderson presiding. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery.
