Sallie R. Edwards' Obituary
Sallie R. Edwards, beloved mother and grandmother, joined our heavenly Father and angels on July 18, 2022.
On August 14, 1962, Sallie Rose Edwards was born the sixth child of Morgan “Slim” Edwards and Elizabeth Seeback Edwards. Sallie was one of seven siblings. She is survived by three of them: Ann Matz, Nancy Edwards, and Noel Edwards.
The Edwards family left Detroit, Michigan for some fresh air and space for their growing family and ended up in Saugatuck, Michigan. Sallie attended the area schools and graduated from Saugatuck High School in 1980.
Sallie’s love of caring for others became evident soon after schooling. She became a nurse’s aide and worked at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. Like her mother, Sallie became a troop leader for her twin nieces Bluebird group. She loved working with children.
Sallie’s own children fondly recall their mother making the holidays memorable for them regardless of how hard times may have been. One memory they cherish is on Christmas Eve they got to open one gift each. Sallie had a special talent for making a simple meal big enough to feed the kids for a week. Her heart was just like that too – big. She loved going camping, playing games, the color purple, and making life for her children full.
She loved animals and especially loved her cats Patches and Daisy who now reside with her son Troy. You could always find Sallie with a very big cup of coffee and driving around in her blue Maverick, with a smile on her face.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Morgan and Elizabeth Edwards. Her brothers, Howard and Troy Edwards, and her sister, Laura Van Voorst. Sallie’s family includes her children: Elizabeth Ann Cihacz, Donald Morgan Cihacz, Jeremy Michael Cihacz, and Troy Matthew Calkins: grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held on July 28, 2022 at Riverside Cemetery in Saugatuck at 10AM. If you would like to attend, the address is 3461 Clearbrook Dr., Saugatuck, MI 49453. A reception to celebrate Sallie’s life with family and friends will be held afterwards at Saugatuck Christian Reformed Church, 6591 Old Allegan Rd, Saugatuck, MI 49453.
Arrangements entrusted to The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442.
