Mrs. Sally Margaret Patton's Obituary
Sally Margaret Patton was born July 17, 1930 to Edith and Lyle White. She passed August 25, 2019 of respiratory failure. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James Richard Patton. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Appledorn; her son, Michael Patton and his wife Kathy; daughter, Peggy Lynn; grandchildren, Laura Marsh, Amy Patton, Jamie Lynn, Jason Lynn; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Sally had a zest for life and was active for all of her 89 years. She was a businesswoman, owning Patton's House of Fabrics. Jim's career required frequent changes of locations and Sally learned early how to make new friends. Upon just meeting someone, Sally could talk with them like she had known them all her life. Both Sally and Jim were active in the Miss Michigan Pageant. After Jim's passing, she organized trips for Widows Together. A few phone calls from Sally would cause even the trips to Turkeyville to be sold out. She was president of the Woman's Club. She ushered at Frauenthal events, but like ladies of her generation, preferred not to work when the crowd was expected to be rowdy. Sally was an accomplished baker. Her baked goods were prized and she was generous with them. Her friends, neighbors and even local businesses were also more than glad to offer a hand when Sally needed help. When she was no longer able to live independently, Sally organized the other residents of Robbinswood to do daily walks. Sally will be missed and there will be more than one person smiling when they think of her. A Memorial Service will be at 4:00 pm Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Community United Methodist Church 1614 Ruddiman Dr., N. Muskegon with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Robbinswood activity fund. Share memories with the family at Sally’s online guestbook @ www.sytsemafh.com. Arrangements by The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442, 231-726-5210.
