Samuel David Deems' Obituary
Samuel David Deems, age 25, passed away suddenly in a tragic traffic accident on June 24, 2025. He was born on April 30, 2000, to Dennis and Amy (Start) Deems in Grand Rapids. Samuel's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to the community. He served the Casnovia Fire Department with great commitment and worked full-time as a paramedic for Rockford Ambulance. At the time of his passing, he was serving as Deputy Fire Chief with the Casnovia Fire Department. He also attended Ravenna Baptist Church. In his free time, Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing, making maple syrup in the spring, and spending time with his wife, Morgan, and dog, Hudson.
On August 16, 2024, he married Morgan Erffmeyer, and she survives him, along with his parents, Dennis and Amy Deems; siblings, Kyle (Kaitlin Oster) Deems and Sidney (Loc) Tran, and his twin brother, Noah Deems; grandparents, Bob (Sally) Deems, Shirley Start, George Raap, and Nancy Vanderwiede; in-laws, Jenny Erffmeyer, Mike Erffmeyer; sisters-in-law, Emily Erffmeyer, Hannah (Ryan) Towler, and Taylor Erffmeyer; nephews, Matthias and Thomas; along with many other uncles, aunts, and cousins. Sam was preceded in death by his grandparents, David Start, Judith Raap, Harold Erffmeyer, and Elizabeth Crandall. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. FUNERAL SERVICES and Fire Service Honors for Sam will take place at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Ravenna High School (2766 S. Ravenna Rd.) with Pastor CJ Nissen and Pastor Ryan Towler officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 5-7 PM on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Ravenna Baptist Church (3186 Blackmer Rd.) and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the school. Burial will take place at Idlewild Cemetery in Kent City. MEMORIALS in Sam’s name can be directed to the Casnovia Fire Department.
