Samuel William Rice's Obituary
Mr. Samuel W. Rice, age 84, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born October 14, 1930 in Moorland Twp. to Clarence and Arabel (Burmeister) Rice. Sam served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was employed at Muskegon Piston Ring for over 36 years. He married the former Ila Verdena Singleton in Muskegon on June 17, 1955. She preceded him in death on October 28, 1999. Sam was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Greater Muskegon Bowling Hall of Fame. He is survived by his children: Daniel Rice, Kathy (Russ) Eiss, Mark (Bev) Rice, Lynn Rice and Scott (Becky) Rice; 6 grandchildren, Melissa, Carina, Max, Hunter, Veronica, and Kaylee; 3 brothers, Clarence (Alverna) Rice, Jr., David (Judith) Rice and Dennis (Sue) Rice; 2 sisters, Berdena Regeczi and Marilyn Hepler; brother-in-law, Russ Osbun. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Osbun, and brothers-in-law, Ron Regeczi and Fred Hepler. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be held Monday, 2:00 p.m. at the Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI, (231) 798-1100, Rev. John H. Brown officiating. VISITATION will be Sunday, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sam will be laid to rest in Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Memorial contributions may be directed to American Cancer Society.
