Sandra J. Griggs' Obituary
Sandra Jean Griggs, age 84, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024, in Muskegon, MI. Sandy was born in Holland, MI, to Fredrick and Nellie (Roush) Foley on March 15, 1940. On November 28, 1959, she married George Griggs, and the two of them spent many wonderful years together until he preceded her in death in 2003. Sandy was a part of many groups during her life. She was a part of the Red Hat Society, a member of her church choir, part of the Down Yonder’s Ladies Group at her church in Largo, FL, and was at one point president of the West Michigan Four Wheel Drive Club. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and doing puzzles, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.
Sandy will be lovingly remembered by four children: Maria (Charles) Parker, Anita Niswonger, Theresa (Michael) Rowe, and Christina Link; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters: Debra Gauthier and Dorthea (Jim) Gannon; daughter in-law, Mechelle Thumma; and a significant other, Ivan “Buck” Houghton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Nellie Foley; husband, George Griggs; three children: George Griggs, Ralph Thumma, and Cynthia Griggs; sister, Linda Kushner; three sons in-law: James Seewald, Jonathan Link, and Scott Niswonger; and brother in-law, Gilbert Gauthier.
Per Sandy’s wishes no public services are taking place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christian Care Assisted Living’s Activity Fund. Arrangements by The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI, 49442.
