Sandra R. "Sandy" Raymond's Obituary
Sandra R. “Sandy” Raymond, age 76, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Sandy was born on November 1, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio to John Douglas Hydorn and Marjorie Ruth Bremer Hydorn. When she was 3 she and her family moved to her father’s hometown of Grand Rapids. She graduated from Wayland Union High in 1963 and later earned her degree from Muskegon Community College to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN).
She worked at Hackley, Koinonia Clinic and Butterworth Hospital. Through the Nurse’s Association, she traveled to several places, including Mackinaw Island and Austria. After retiring from Butterworth Hospital, Sandy moved to Muskegon to be closer to her family. As a huge people person, she enjoyed spending time with her cat Gracie, and her family and friends. Incredibly funny, witty, and caring to animals, everyone loved to be around her. She was especially involved in the lives of her 4 nieces, 4 great-nieces, and 2 great-nephews. She also was an active member of Temple United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers-in-law, Shelby Noble Nash and Dennis DeVries; younger sister, Barbara Ann Hydorn Keil DeVries; and nephew-in-law, Alexander Thurston.
She is survived by her oldest sister, Marjorie J. Hydorn Nash; nieces, Kimberly Nash (Matt Tighe) daughter Trinity Tighe, Kelly Thurston daughters Shelby and Colby Thurston, Melissa Keil Collins children Paris and Garvin Collins, Brianna Keil Spars (Jim) son Zeke Spars; and very best friend and fellow nurse Kathy Mataleza.
