Sandra Whittaker's Obituary
Mrs. Sandra Whittaker, age 75, of Grand Haven passed away Monday, March 21, 2016 at home. She was born October 1, 1940 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Maurice and Emma (Florin) Enge. On November 22, 1960 she married William “Bill” Whittaker in Cedar Springs and he preceded her in death on December 16, 2011. Sandra and Bill met at Meijer when they both were working there.
Sandra’s entire life was devoted to caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren and extended family as well. She was an avid traveler and traveled to 32 different countries, all of the USA and parts of Canada. Her favorite destination was the Hawaiian Islands where they were joined by family and friends on many occasions. Sandra played the piano, gardened and loved to sew. They were also supporters of the Broadway Grand Rapids for over 20 years.
A special thank you to the women who so lovingly cared for Sandra thru her lengthy battle with Parkinson’s – Tia Dumbrigue, Mary Anne Gregory, Christie Stevens, Janice Tenbrink, Pam McCaleb, Laura Pretzer and Brandy Tenbrink. Without you Sandy’s life could not have been so joyful in her last 10 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Whittaker of Grand Haven; daughter-in-law, Debra Whittaker of Grand Rapids; two grandchildren: David and Julia. She is also survived by two brothers, Roger (Inga) Enge, Chuck Enge; sister-in-law, Virginia Christiansen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Keith Whittaker, November 4, 2015; brother, John Enge; sister-in-law, Sue Enge.
Funeral Service will be 12:00 PM Saturday, March 26, 2016 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
