Scott John Burkall's Obituary
Scott John Burkall, age 64, was surrounded by love as the Lord called him home on Monday, October 3, 2022. He was born in Muskegon, MI on December 10,1957 to Arthur and Delores (Balkema) Burkall. Scott was a lifelong resident of Muskegon and was a member of the Mona Shores graduating class of 1976. He was a machinist by trade and spent many years working at Kaydon Corporation, West Michigan Grinding & Machine and Hilite International. He also fulfilled his dream of becoming an entrepreneur with his first wife Shelley as the owners of Burkall Ace Hardware in Norton Shores. He was particularly fond of these years of work, interacting with customers and helping them with their yards, gardens, and household repairs, often making friends in the process. Scott had the ability to always make those around him laugh with his witty one-liners. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, listening to music, reading and rooting on his favorite sports teams the Detroit Redwings and Tigers. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with family and close friends up north and to Wyoming. Above all, Scott loved spending time with his family, friends and his best canine buddy Gunner. Scott's faith was strong, and he knew God always had a plan even in the hardest of days. He was a member of Westwood Reformed Church and more recently Unity Reformed Church, enjoying his visits with Pastor David Celeskey.
Scott will be greatly missed by his daughter, Holli (Tony) & granddaughter's Calli, Hayley and Alaynah Smith of Muskegon; his brothers Rex (Cindy) Burkall of Nunica and Chris (Kristine) Burkall of Muskegon; sister Dawn Falkowski of Muskegon; nieces and nephews Mandi, Hunter, Casey, Chad, Tracy, Roni, Ryan, Travis and Misti; first wife and friend Shelley and very special extended family Samantha, Dana, Cady, and Madison Christiansen. Scott was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Delores Burkall, brother Michael and beloved dog Gunner.
In keeping with Scotts wishes an outdoor celebration of his life will be held at a later date when weather permits. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy, please consider Unity Reformed Church or St. Jude's Children's hospital.
Special Thanks to Seminole Shores Assisted Living, Davita Dialysis, Freedom Transit and the Muskegon Area District Library for the Visually Impaired for all their special care, kindness and love throughout the last several years.
