Scott L. "Scotty" Packard's Obituary
Scott L. “Scotty” Packard, age 101, just days shy of his 102nd birthday, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026. He was born on April 24, 1924, to Lloyd Alvero and Anne Marie (Schlosser) Packard in Toledo, Ohio. Scotty graduated from Scott High School with the Class of 1942. He eventually made his way to Fort Lauderdale, which he proudly called home for over 50 years. It was there that he built many lifelong friendships and became a familiar, friendly face in the community. Over the years, he held a variety of jobs, from working as a dog catcher to dedicating many years of service at Southport U.S. Post Office as a time controller. Scotty knew the address layout for all of Ft. Lauderdale and could give directions to anyone even into his 90’s. Following his retirement, Scotty continued to give back to his community by volunteering at the Broward County West Regional Library for 25 years, often joking that the Dewey Decimal System helped keep his wits sharp. Scotty also served the Edgewood Civic Association and the Florida Day of the Dead Celebration. Scotty had a deep passion for music and was a gifted pianist who played music by ear and continued playing from memory until his final days. As a young man, he was a member of Charlie’s Novelty Boys, a boogie woogie band playing in the Toledo area. Scotty had a special place in his heart for animals and shared his life with several beloved dachshunds over the years. Known for his outgoing and social nature, he had a remarkable ability to connect with others and never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand. Above all, Scotty cherished the time spent with his family and the many memories they created together. He will always be remembered for his vibrant personality, his ability to light up any room, and his signature yellow bucket hat. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Scotty is survived by his daughter, Sharon Smith; two grandchildren, Allen Scott Smith and LeighAnn Mikesell; four grandchildren, Joshuah and Christian Smith and Allison and Cassius Mikesell; three nieces, Linda Keller, Kate Foggia and Amy Richards; and many dear friends. The family wishes to recognize his neighbors from the Edgewood Community that became his Florida family: Sarah and Kevin Boyd; Shelly Bradshaw, Jim Hammond, and family; Tania De La Torre and family; Shannon and Novi Filipovich; Jolene and Steve Schenck; Michelle and Dane Tullock; and many others. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucy Harrsen; niece, Susan Harrsen; nephew, David Harrsen; and his longtime companion, Gloria Lind. Memorial Contributions in his honor can be directed to Harbor Hospice. Per his wishes, no funeral service will be held. He will be laid to rest at Lauderdale Memorial Park in Florida, his sunny paradise. Arrangements entrusted to The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441. Share memories with the family at https://www.sytsemafh.com.
