Serilda Josephine Summers' Obituary
Serilda Josephine Summers, daughter of the late Robert Joe and Mary Emma Gray was born August 4, 1962 in Muskegon, Michigan. She attended Muskegon Public Schools and Muskegon Community College where she obtained an Associates in Child Development. She loved to read, shop for shoes, and was known for her quick wit and sense of humor.
She was blessed with two children: Daughter, Serilda Summers-McGee (Charles McGee): Son, Jonathan Summers, and a Special Daughter, Shondrika Spann, who preceded her in death.
Serilda was Director of Pre-school Curriculum at Solutions Learning Group, was a teacher for 27 years, and served as an early childhood certification mentor and coach.
Her smile and her commitment to the next generation will forever remain in the lives of the hundreds of kids transformed by her love for early literacy and parent engagement.
She suddenly departed this life on Monday, December 29, 2019 after a wonderful Christmas vacation to Mexico with her daughter’s family.
She also was preceded in death by her life partner, Walter (Bobby) Philips; and sister, Dawni Minor. Her beautiful spirit will forever be cherished in lives of her children, grandchildren: Charles McGee, IV (9), Merrick McGee (5), and Domonic Summers (2); her siblings: Edward Gray, Robert Charles, Bonita Charles, Troy Minor, Robert Hunter and Kim Hunter; devoted friend, Darlene Spann; and host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A FUNERAL SERVICE will take place 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 4, 2020 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442 with Pastor Scotty McKinley officiating. Visitation will be held 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, January 3, 2020 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. Share memories with the family at www.sytsemafh.com.
