Shawn Patrick Zahrt's Obituary
Shawn Patrick Zahrt, 54, of Muskegon, Michigan, passed away on July 8, 2024. Born on March 17, 1970, in Muskegon, Michigan, Shawn was a cherished son to Cheryl (James) Kammeraad and James (Sandra) Zahrt. He grew up in a loving family alongside his siblings Eric and Tiffany.
As a child and teen, Shawn played the organ and guitar. He enjoyed the music of Celtic Irish, Bach, and Hard Rock. He was a cat and horse lover, riding and showing his horse Teeba. He enjoyed river fishing for salmon and fishing at Stony Lake with his friends and cousins.
A skilled journeyman patternmaker and CNC operator, Shawn dedicated many years to his craft, where he was respected for his precision and work ethic. Shawn was very intelligent and enjoyed lifelong learning, with a special interest in genealogy and World War II history. Beyond his professional life, Shawn was a master storyteller with a great sense of humor, always ready to share a laugh or a tale. His kindness and loving nature made him a beloved figure among his family and friends.
Shawn's hobbies reflected his zest for life and love of the outdoors. He was passionate about working on cars and snowmobiles. He also enjoyed watersports, exploring estate sales and collecting jewelry and gold. Most importantly, he cherished spending quality time with his family and friends, especially enjoying the Christmas holidays, creating memories that they will hold dear forever.
Shawn is survived by his parents, James (Sandra) Zahrt and Cheryl Kammeraad; siblings, Eric (Pamela) Zahrt, Tiffany (Todd) Lachniet, Chris (Liz Woodard), and Myia (Dan) Kersman; nephews Ethan and Evan Zahrt, Jordan and Travis Krommendyk, and niece Elise Zahrt. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, James Kammeraad, and niece, Angelica Krommendyk. Special mention Mike Straley who was a beloved role model and friend for thirty years.
A service to celebrate Shawn's life will be held at Laketon Bethel Church on Thursday, July 11, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by the service at 11:00 am. A lunch gathering for family and friends will follow the service, continuing the celebration of Shawn's life. Arrangements have been entruted to The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442.
