Shayna L. Spyke's Obituary
Shayna Louise Spyke, age 40, passed away in Muskegon, MI, on Saturday, August 6, 2022. She was born in Muskegon, MI, on July 19, 1982, in Muskegon, to her parents Norm and Rhonda (Wilson) Spyke. A lifelong resident of Fruitport, she graduated from Fruitport High School in the class of 2000. Shayna was the little sister of her two big brothers, Ross and Kurt. She had no choice but to be spunky and hold her own. She loved her dolls, but also loved building with Legos and playing sports. When Shayna was eleven years old, she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. In typical Shayna fashion, she didn’t trust her mom or dad to give her the insulin shots, so she did it herself from day one. When she entered high school, she discovered a love and passion in aiding children with special needs. This led her to a ten-year career working for Fruitport Schools in their special education department. Each and every student she worked with held a very special place in her heart. Shayna was always ready for a good time with family and friends. If you weren’t a friend of hers when she walked in the door, you would be by the time she left. Her absence will leave an insurmountable hole in the hearts of her many close and dearly loved family members, along with her many friends that are too numerous to count. Shayna will be lovingly remembered by her parents, Norm and Rhonda Spyke; her beloved daughter, Riley Spyke; her brothers, Ross (Lisa) Spyke and Kurt (Michelle) Spyke; her dearly loved nephews: Caden, Andrew, Garrett, Will, and Koen Spyke; her special friends, Kelly Brown and Melissa Robinson; and her beloved dog, Lizzie. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be taking place at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444. VISITATION will be held before the funeral on Thursday from 12:00-2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
