Sheila Carole (Sattory) VanderScheer's Obituary
Mrs. Sheila Carole VanderScheer, age 69, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Mercy Health Partners. She was born June 19, 1942 in Muskegon to William and Thelma (Schliwe) Sattory and lived her entire life in the area. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from Central Michigan University. Sheila was a physical education teacher for Mona Shores Public Schools for 27 years and retired in 1997. On July 21, 1971, she married Roy VanderScheer in Muskegon and he survives her. Sheila was an avid nature lover and enjoyed the outdoors, kayaking and bird watching. Sheila was also a prolific amateur photographer. Along with her husband, Roy, she is SURVIVED by son, Kurt VanderScheer and his wife, Jennifer McKean of Allegan; daughter, Jill Kanowith and her husband, Matthew of Ellicott City, MD; 2 step-children, Jody (Tim) Whitehead of Charlotte, MI, Ross VanderScheer of Howard City, MI; 4 grandchildren, AnnaBelle and EanJoseph VanderScheer, Benjamin and Jonah Kanowith; 1 step-grandson, Alex VanderScheer; 1 brother, Gerald (Lois) Sattory of Muskegon; and 1 sister-in-law, Elaine (Fred) Borgman of Grand Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 10, 2011 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey Street (231) 798-1100 with Rev. Ron Nyenhuis officiating. VISITATION will be held one hour prior, 1-2 PM Saturday. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Michigan Wildlife Conservancy.
