Shelby Jean Redding's Obituary
Shelby Jean Redding, age 24, passed away tragically on August 26, 2025, in Ionia County. She was born on April 7, 2001, in Muskegon, to Chad and Melissa (Hoagland) Piper. Shelby graduated from Ravenna High School and went on to earn two master’s degrees, most recently completing her Physician Assistant Degree just a week ago. She was a student at heart who loved reading, shopping, and the beauty of the Fall season. She also cherished time spent with her husband, Brendan, and her dog, Finley. Softball was a big part of Shelby’s life, leading her to attend Olivet University, where she played third base. On May 11, 2024, she married Brendan J. Redding, and together they looked forward to welcoming their first child, Evelynn Josephine, who also passed away in the accident. Shelby is survived by her husband, Brendan; her parents, Chad and Melissa Piper; in-laws, Christopher and Sharon Redding; sisters, Kelcee Piper and Melanie Redding; nephew, Kyree Piper; niece, Kinslee Alexander; grandparents, Tom (Bonnie) McDonald, Ford (Sue) Redding, Rick (Sally) Piper, Garry (Cindy) Hoagland; aunts and uncles, Lisa (Adam) Corlew, Thomas Hoagland, Michael (Sarrah) McDonald, Brad (Kaci) Kamaloski, Josh (Nichole) Piper; cousins, Aiden Corlew, Damien, Mikayla, Richard, Kaleigh, Kaylie, Cole; close friend, Morgan Deems; along with many other relatives and friends. Shelby was preceded in death by Brendan’s grandfather, Ronald Knoth; numerous great-grandparents; her uncle, Brett Piper; and close friend, Sam Deems. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Ravenna Baptist Church (3186 Blackmer Rd.), with visitation the night before from 5:00-8:00 PM also at the church and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
