Shirley Kay DeVries' Obituary
Shirley Kay DeVries, age 86, passed away at the Poppen Residence on December 26, 2023. She was born August 25, 1937, to Warren and Emily (Matson) Johnson in Ludington and graduated from Pentwater High School, Class of 1955. Shirley was an active member of First Lutheran Church where she served on council and was part of the Altar Guild. She was also involved with Girl Scouts, service league and volunteered with the Red Cross. Shirley graduated with a Registered Nursing Degree from Hackley Hospital School of Nursing in 1958 and still stayed in touch with her friends from her graduating class. Shirley enjoyed family time, playing bridge and winter vacations to Mexico and the Caribbean. On December 13, 1958, she married Dennis DeVries and he survives her along with one daughter, Kimberly (Douglas) Fenbert; grandson, Jason (Bethany) Bleich; great-grandchildren, Payten and Bryson; sister-in-law, Wendy (Al) Dominowski; niece, Lynda (Corey) Erickson; and nephew, Scott DeVries. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Jennifer Bleich; and brother-in-law, Alan DeVries. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, January 26, 2024, at First Lutheran Church (1206 Whitehall Rd.) with Pastor William Uetricht officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. MEMORIALS can be directed to First Lutheran Church – youth group or the Association for The Blind & Visually Impaired.
