Shirley Ann Jacobson's Obituary
Shirley Ann Jacobson, age 81, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023 at home surrounded by her four daughters. She was born May 13, 1941 in Casnovia, MI to Henry and Shirley (Herrygers) VanderZanden. Shirley was a housewife for most of her life and cherished raising her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Shirley was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Grand Rapids. Although she was very private, she had a strong, quiet faith and was a powerful prayer warrior. She loved to cook, had a great sense of humor, and was always ready to help someone in need. Shirley will be missed by many. SURVIVORS include four daughters: Julie (Marty) Anderson, Tammy (John) Savage, Amy (Dennis) Traxler, and Paula (Dan) Mol; 10 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Jack (Carol) VanderZanden and Jim (Kelli) VanderZanden; five sisters: Stella Weston, Barb (Arnold) Emmory, Jeanie (Fred) Grice, Theresa (Gary) Westcott, and Rita (Mark) Mortensen; and a sister-in-law, Sue VanderZanden. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers: Bill, Hank Jr., and Carl. The FUNERAL MASS for Shirley will be held 11:00 AM Friday, May 19, 2023 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church (12236 Heights Ravenna Rd., Ravenna, MI 49451) with the Rev. Fr. Andrew Ayers presiding. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. She will be laid to rest in St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery, Ravenna. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to the Music Department of either St. Jude Catholic Church in Grand Rapids or St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Ravenna, Faith Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
