Shirley Kane's Obituary
Shirley Jean Kane, age 83, of Grand Haven passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at her home. She was born May 13, 1937, in McBain, MI, to Ernest and Mary (DeBack) Scheltema.
Shirley graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1988. She was also a member of Second Reformed Church in Grand Haven. Shirley enjoyed knitting scarves and blankets, oil painting, and collecting glass and ceramic figurines.
Shirley Jean married Robert Kane on May 27, 1980, and he preceded her in death on May 22, 2012. She is survived by her five daughters: Jacqueline (Jim) Steenhagen, Cynthia Deming, Marie DeBack, Mary Louise Underwood, and Kristina (Will) Baldry; a son, Lee William DeBack; two step-daughters, Lorraine Kane and Loretta Kane; one step-son, John (Helen) Kane; Twenty-one grandchildren; Forty-two great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; two sisters, Lucille Kuipers, and Phyllis Button; and two brothers, Philip (Tang) Scheltema, and John Scheltema. She is preceded in death by her first husband, William DeBack in 1977; two brothers, Ernest Scheltema and William Scheltema; two sisters, Marian Keway, Nellie Laman; son-in-law, John Underwood.
Due to COVID 19 there will not be a service at this time. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Shirley can be given to Christian Haven Home. Share memories with the family at their online guest book at www.sytsemafh.com.
