Mrs. Shirley K. Newsted's Obituary
Mrs. Shirley Newsted, age 78, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018. She was born on January 8, 1940 to Cornelius and Isabell (Goodman) Verplank in Scottville, MI. On June 28, 1958, she married Ronald Newsted and he preceded her in death on January 15, 2006. Shirley worked as a school bus driver for the Reeths-Puffer School District for 36 years and attended Fruitland Covenant Church for several years. Shirley enjoyed socializing with others and going out to eat or grab coffee with friends. Graduating in 1958 from Shelby High School, Shirley and several of her classmates kept in touch and would visit with each other frequently. She traveled and camped with her daughter and family friends, the Hick’s, Grimard’s and Duell’s. Shirley liked to play cards and games, read, and listen to Elvis. Shirley will be missed by her daughter, Laurie Newsted; granddaughter, Megan (Nate) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Oliver, Sawyer and Tucker; sister, Brenda (Dave) Roth; brother-in-law, Bob Newsted; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Along with her husband, Ron, Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Mark, in 1987. A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held on Saturday, August 25 at 11AM at Fruitland Covenant Church. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service from 10:30-11AM. Memorial contribution’s in Shirley’s name may be directed to Fruitland Covenant Church.
