Shirley A. Polanyi-Lee's Obituary
Shirley A. Polanyi-Lee, age 88, passed away Friday morning, June 21, 2019 at American House Living Center in Spring Lake. She was born May 1, 1931 in Muskegon to Charles and Marguerite (Carney) Hauke and lived in the area her entire life. Shirley graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1949. She worked over 20 years as a receptionist for Co-Optical Eyecare. On June 30, 1951, she married John J. Polanyi in Muskegon Heights and he preceded her in death on January 11, 1997. She married Virgil Lee in 1999 and they’ve been happily married the past 20 years. Shirley was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and currently a member of Calvary Bible Church the past 20 years. She had been active for many years at FCSU #595 – Tatra Hall. She enjoyed her flower gardens, dancing, shopping and walking. She was very fond of her faithful dog, “Schotzy” and enjoyed her many travels and bus trips. Shirley is survived by her husband, Virgil Lee and his family; 3 children, John Polanyi of Grand Rapids, Tom (Cindy) Polanyi of Norton Shores, Mary Kay (Ron) Olson of Gurnee, IL; 6 grandchildren, Renee Weirda, Sarah Weigand, Lindsey Polanyi, Jacob Polanyi, Chad (Laura) Olson, Kyle Olson; 5 great-grandchildren, Colby Grace, Olivia, Nathan, Kallie Rae, Elliot; 2 sisters, Pat Carlson and Charlene (Keith) Berghuis. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Polanyi; her parents; and 1 brother, Fred Hauke. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
