Shirley A. Pummel's Obituary
Shirley Ann Pummel, age 70, passed away, with her family by her side, on Thursday, November 16, 2023 in Muskegon. She was born May 7, 1953 in Muskegon to Ernest E. and Mary A. (Johnston) Mason and lived her entire life in the area. Shirley married David R. Pummel on June 3, 1972 in Muskegon. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church of Muskegon where she served as an elder, board chairperson and volunteered for just about anything needed. She also volunteered her time for Sportsman for Youth, Muskegon Bowmen, and Relay for Life as a 15-year cancer survivor herself. Survivors include her loving husband, David Pummel; 2 daughters, Rhonda (Robert) Sternberg, Shannon (Rusty) Kolka; 7 grandchildren, Robert Sternberg, Damian Sternberg, Lawrence Berg II, Logan Berg, Kayla Jones, Kaylie (Pat) Kolka, Brenden Kolka; 7 great-grandchildren, Robert Sternberg Jr, Brody Miles, Alaina Sternberg, Marley Fles, Xaundra Rosales, Tammy Hills, Austin Kolka; many bonus grandchildren and bonus great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Ernest (Paul Tanis) Mason Jr, Dwayne (Trisha) Mason; several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Harvey and Viola Pummel; 2 sisters, Frances Pitre, Donna Mason; 1 brother-in-law, Harvey Pummel; and 1 sister-in-law, Geraldine Bowen. Shirley was loved by everyone she met. Special thanks to Dr. Alguire for the many years of special care. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at First Christian Church of Muskegon, 2755 Holton Road, Muskegon, MI 49445, with Pastor Robert Grams officiating. Visitation will be held 4-7PM Monday at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. Interment will take place at Mona View Cemetery.
