Mrs. Shirley Elaine Sechen's Obituary
Mrs. Shirley Elaine Sechen, age 88, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017. Shirley was born September 11, 1928 in Muskegon. She was a 1947 graduate of Muskegon High School. On October 29, 1949, she married Edward John Sechen and they were lovingly together until his death on May 16, 2013. Shirley loved watching sports, the Tigers, the Red Wings, the Muskegon Mohawks, but particularly, watching Ed, her sons, daughter, and grandsons playing hockey, baseball, and basketball. She had been a parishioner of St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church since it was founded in 1955. Shirley also had been a member of the Altar Guild and was a recipient of The Bishop’s Cross for her service to the church. She loved gardening and roses, and passed this love onto her daughter. Shirley also loved the many birds that regularly came to her always full feeders. Survivors include her son, Gary (Wynn Miller) Sechen, daughter, Nancy J. (Forrest) Hainline; daughter-in-law, Debra Sechen; grandchildren, Charles and Grant Sechen, Leo Hainline; and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was also preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Sechen; her son, Larry Sechen; and her parents, Goldie and Adolph Anderson; sisters, Leona Gustafson, Alberta Peterson, and Delores Elliott; brothers, Gordon and Harvey Anderson. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church, 1200 Seminole Rd., with Rev. William Fleener as celebrant and Rev. Lily Marx as deacon officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service (10-11am). MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church or the charity of your choice. Arrangements by The Lee Chapel, 6291 S.
