Shirley J. Spicer's Obituary
Shirley Jean Spicer, age 73, passed away in Muskegon, MI, on Sunday, June 4, 2023. Shirley was born on February 26, 1950, in Muskegon to Herbert and Laura (McCollum) Smith, and she lived the rest of her life in the Muskegon area. On August 29, 1970, she married Ronald Spicer, and the two of them spent 52 wonderful years together. Shirley loved the lake, every night she and Ronald would drive down to the Muskegon channel and have a picnic dinner together. She loved having family cookouts, which her baked beans and deviled eggs were always the highlight of. Shirley had a lively spirit, she loved listening to music (especially Dan + Shay and Chris Stapleton) and dancing with her friends at their weekly music jams. She enjoyed going for a ride and the occasional trip to the casino, but her grandchildren were her true pride and joy. Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Ronald Spicer; two children: Troy (Emily) Spicer and Tory (Adam) Ferrier; three granddaughters: Madison, Avery, and Aliyah; four step grandchildren: Maxwell, Collin, Alison, and Lillyann; three siblings: Kenneth (Peedee) Smith, Robert (Kim) Renick, and Judith (Thomas) Pawlowski; many nieces and nephews, and special friends Rayora Spray, Rita Harpe, and Rick Welch, who were wonderful and helpful neighbors to Shirley for many years. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Laura Smith; and four siblings: Herbert Smith Jr, Larry Cowans, Charles Cowins, and Mary Knapp. A Celebration of Life will be taking place from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 1st at The Arlington Woods Clubhouse, 3785 Evanston Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442. Arrangements by The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI, 49442.
