Shirley Jean Sterritt's Obituary
Shirley J. Sterritt, age 90, passed away Monday, October 14, 2019 at her home. She was born November 28, 1928 in Highland Park, MI and was raised by her parents, Walter and Ruth (Shaberly) Greene. On May 14, 1949, she married Robert C. “Bob” Sterritt at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Muskegon and he survives her. Shirley worked over 30 years as a graphic artist for Dana Printing and Studio 5 Advertising. She was a long-time member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she volunteered decorating for the many church events. Shirley was also the coordinator for St. Mary’s Reunions for many years. Since graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1946, she gathered with a special group of 12 girlfriends each month, taking turns at each other’s homes, sharing lots of laughs and delicious desserts. Shirley was a great swimmer and loved to be in the water. She was a talented pianist. Survivors include her loving husband of 70 years, Robert C. “Bob” Sterritt; 2 sons, James (Kathleen) Sterritt, Joseph B. Sterritt; 4 grandchildren, Stacy (Brian) Holtsclaw, Kelly (William) Clancy, Emily (Kyle) Johnson, Joseph Sterritt; 6 great-grandchildren, Will, Kaleb, Samantha, Kaitlyn, Mackenzie, Ryan; 1 sister, Bunny Greetham; 1 sister-in-law, Beverly England; 1 brother-in-law, Daniel Thill; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janelle Sterritt; her parents; and 1 sister, Doris Ward. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Thursday, October 17, 2019 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (239 W. Clay Ave.) with the Rev. Fr. Matthew J. Barnum presiding. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will take place 5-8 PM Wednesday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444 where the Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 PM.
