Shirley J. Wood's Obituary
Shirley J. Wood, age 79, passed on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 16, 1944 to James and Marcia (Swenson) Knoll Sr. in Muskegon and has remained a lifelong resident. She graduated from North Muskegon High School and continued on with college courses focused mainly in clerical. Shirley dedicated numerous years working at Zephyr Oil Refinery where she met the love of her life, Larry Wood. They were married on November 4, 1967, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Together they cherished 54 years full of love, laughter and sunshine. Shirley loved spending her time outdoors, whether it was tending to her flower gardens, perfecting her bird knowledge while watching them, or her love for all animals, especially her grand pups. She and Larry enjoyed making their way to the river, visiting Lake Michigan, or swimming in the pool. She will be remembered most for the unconditional love she had for her family and friends. Shirley was the most generous woman and dedicated her time to being a mom, grandma and great-grandma. She loved celebrating the holidays and birthdays with her family. She was a selfless and tender-loving spirit that will be missed dearly by so many. She is survived by her two children, Kristina (Wayne) Clark of Muskegon, MI and Kimberly Sweet of Muskegon, MI; two stepsons, Larry (Kristi) Wood II of Grant, MI and Kevin (Brenda) Wood of Croton, MI; six grandchildren, Austin Sweet, Jackson Sweet, Evan Beeman, Megan (Steven) Kukulis, Larry Wood III and Rick Wood; one great-grandchild, Larry Wood VI; sister, Phyllis Griffin; sister-in-law, Jeanne Knoll; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Larry Wood; brother, James “Jim” Knoll Jr.; and brother-in-law, Lou Griffin.
