Sidney C. "Sid" Semmens' Obituary
Sidney C. “Sid” Semmens, age 88, of Grand Haven, passed away Monday, October 19, 2020, at Robbinswood Assisted Living Community. He was born October 17, 1932, in Skanee, Michigan, to Thomas and Jane (Giles) Semmens. Sid married Sandra Mae “Sandy” Groth on April 25, 1964, in Calumet, Michigan.
Sid was a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard working on the Icebreaker Mackinaw, and worked at Follen Tool as a Tool and Die Maker for 40 years. He loved hunting, fishing, wood working, gardening, projects around the house, playing cards, and cooking. He enjoyed laughing, sharing stories, and visiting with others, especially family. Sid and Sandy enjoyed following the Red Wings together.
Sid is lovingly remembered by four children: Larry (Susan) Semmens, Scott (Valerie) Semmens, Lori (John) Semmens Banks, and Gary (Toni Perfect) Semmens; fourteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Craig Semmens, siblings William “Billy” (Alma) Nankervis, John “Jack” (Mary Jane) Nankervis, Grace (Nelson) Nankervis Bellaire, and Thomas “Tom” (Frances) Semmens, and his first wife, Donna (Henderson) Semmens.
A private graveside service will be held at Grand Haven Township Historic Cemetery. A public celebration of Sid and Sandy’s lives will be held at a later date.
