Siegfried Alfred Baumgart's Obituary
Siegfried Alfred Baumgart, age 82, passed away on December 30, 2023. Sig, as he was known, was born on May 18, 1941 to Alfred & Berta (Tober) Baumgart in East Prussia. During WWII, his family left their home and embarked on a long journey that would eventually lead them to settle in Grand Haven.
Sig would grow up attending St. John Lutheran School where he learned to play soccer and then went on to graduate from Grand Haven High School.
Soon after graduating Sig took a job at the Firestone gas station, this would lead into his lifelong love of cars when he saved enough to buy a 1958 Impala. He was a founding member of the Car Club (a small group of likeminded people who assisted each other like a mini AAA). Later in life he was a member of the Grand Rapids Antique Car Club and the West Michigan Impala Club. He was also a longtime member of GBU District 707.
In the early 60’s, Sig married Ruth Reese, and they would grow their family to include 4 children. He loved bowling and spent over 20 years as part of the National Bowling League. His involvement allowed for him to travel whenever there was a tournament or convention around the country.
He spent his career working for GM, and as luck would have it, in a casual passing, he would meet his second wife, Margie Little. On tax day in 2009, the happy couple were married in a small quiet ceremony in Las Vegas, while traveling for a bowling tournament.
There was not a place you could go, that Sig didn’t know someone. He could talk to anyone and his personality made him a quick friend to all. He lived a full life and has left an imprint on everyone who had the honor to have known and love him.
Sig was preceded in death by his sister, Edith Dorn, in January of 2023 and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Margaret, his children: Amy (Garrett) Pourron, Sandy, Heidi and David Baumgart as well as many cousins and countless friends.
