Simon B. Tarsnane's Obituary
Simon Bernard Tarsnane of Fruitport, MI, age 67, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. He was born on August 23, 1953, to (Colonel) Bernard Tarsnane and Hilda Tarsnane (both deceased). He is survived by his two older brothers, Kevin and Robin Tarsnane. Simon was born in Gosport, a town in Hampshire on the south coast of the United Kingdom. Being the son of a British Army Colonel as a youngster, Simon moved around every few years before ending up at a minor British Public School. He was good at sports, playing rugby and cricket for his school team. Simon was always interested in wildlife and was sort of a Robin Hood figure, especially in his early adult hood. Simon attended the Slimbridge Wildlife Reserve in Southwest England to carry on his education into breeding wildfowl. He then left England to go to the States to pursue his love for wild fowl and make a living doing so. Simon has written numerous books on wildfowl and many were published. His books are still in circulation today. The game of golf was also a passion of Simon’s, especially in his middle years out west and later in life here in the Muskegon area. He was a near scratch golfer at one point and he eventually became a Certified Golf Instructor and Clubsmith. From 2008-2018, Simon made a great impact on many golfers in the Muskegon area. During that time, he established a loyal customer base as a respected teacher and certified club technician at Dick’s Sporting Goods and Fruitport Golf Center. He considered his Dick’s Sporting Goods co-workers as his family and was thankful to be able to do what he loved at the store. Simon got his most joy out of playing many rounds of golf, usually at Fruitport Golf Course, or the Flats as he called it, with his friends, especially his good friend Jerry. Simon was also a fabulous cook who enjoyed cooking for friends after golf, and of course having a libation or two. Having moved around the country much of his life, Simon spent a few years out west, which he enjoyed more than any other part of the country. One area in particular was Half Moon Bay, CA, which is just south of San Francisco. Simon loved talking about how beautiful it was and how he enjoyed his time there. With that in mind, some of Simon’s best friends are taking a trip to Half Moon Bay and spreading his ashes over the place he cherished most. Simon was one of a kind and he will be dearly missed. -Rest In Peace Simon. Arrangements by The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
