S.P. "Sonny" Holmes' Obituary
Mr. S.P. “Sonny” Holmes, Sr., age 91, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2009 at his home. Mr. Holmes was born December 7, 1917 to Payton and Malaha (White) Holmes in Helena, AK. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the male chorus and other choirs. Mr. Holmes was employed as a deliveryman for Parcel Delivery until retiring in 1983. He loved singing and working in his yard. Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife, Billie Holmes; son, Uyless Holmes; 3 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; 6 step-children, Laura (Robert) Harris, Athena Cheatum, Mark (Starr) Cheatum, Padraic (Earlinda) Cheatum, Gary (Kate) Cheatum and Silas (Dee) Ramsey; and 15 step-grandchildren. Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary and 4 sisters. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 12:00 Noon on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Bethesda Baptist Church, 575 Getty Street, with Pastor Charles W. Poole, Sr. officiating. INTERMENT will be in Oakwood Cemetery. VISITATION will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Friday at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Avenue 231 726-5210 In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hackley VNS Hospice or Bethesda Baptist Church.
