Stanley William Kompik's Obituary
Mr. Stanley William Kompik, age 93, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 in Traverse City, Michigan. He was born in Pentwater, Michigan on December 11, 1922 to Ignatz J. and Agnes (Lilkotic) Kompik and graduated from Pentwater High School, class of 1942. Stan was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as an airplane engine mechanic during WWII. He retired in 1989 from Continental Motors/Teledyne, had previously owned the Speedway 79 Station on the corner of Broadway and Getty, and also had worked at Brunswick, Norge, and Bennett Pump. Stan was an avid square and round dancer, and was a long-time member of the Hi-Nabors Square Dance Club where he served as President for many years. He also spent many years bowling in the Northway Bowling League. Stan enjoyed traveling across the country camping at National Parks, gardening, and feeding the birds in his yard. On August 14, 1948, Stanley married the former Arleen Ann Bowden in Muskegon and she survives him along with their two daughters, Karen Jean (Jim) Woodrum and Cheryl Ann (Rick) Hansen; two granddaughters, Stacie Ann (Ben) Carpenter and Aimee Jean (Anson) Huckleby; four great-grandchildren, Leland James and Ganson William Carpenter and Kayla Marie and Logan Wade Huckleby. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, James, Frank, Joseph and Edward Kompik; and two sisters, Sophie Kidder and Ann Patz. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Saturday, July 23, 2016 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100 with Rev. Burt Wachter officiating. VISITATION will be from 6-8 PM Friday, July 22, 2016 at The Lee Chapel. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors.
