Stanley Alfred Strong's Obituary
Mr. Stanley Alfred “Joe” Strong, age 70, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, September 21, 2019 after a two-year battle with cancer. He was born in Muskegon on January 8, 1949 to Warren and Frances (Malin) Strong and was a graduate of Orchard View High School, class of 1968. Stan was employed by Howmet for 36 years prior to his retirement in 2006. He was an avid outdoorsman and was a past member of the National Turkey Federation and Ducks Unlimited. Stan enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, spending time on the river, being with his family, and a good game of Farkle. He also enjoyed camping with his wife, Dolly, especially their annual trips to Mesick where they would hunt for Morel Mushrooms and their trip to Alaska. He was a member of Sheridan Drive Baptist Church where he was known as “Turtle Man”. On August 20, 1977, Stan married the former Myrtle May “Dolly” Lathrop in Twin Lake and she survives him along with four sons, John (Rhonda) Greve, Steven (Shawn) Greve, Daniel Greve, David (Melissa) Greve; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard Strong and David (Sharon) Strong; two sisters, Lois (Daniel) Pearce and Mary Ann Justice and many nieces and nephews. VISITATION will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon MI 49442. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Sheridan Drive Baptist Church (84 S Sheridan Dr, Muskegon, 49442) with Rev. Stephen Rumley officiating. Burial will be in Oakhurst Cemetery. MEMORIALS may be directed to Sheridan Drive Baptist Church or the Harbor Hospice Foundation – Poppen Residence.
