Mr. Stephen "Steve" Anthony Frantz's Obituary
Mr. Stephen Anthony Frantz, age 74, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Poppen Residence of Harbor Hospice. A native of White Cloud, MI, he was born August 2, 1937 to Anthony and Patranella (Jonaitis) Frantz. On September 8, 1956, Steve married the former Kathryn A. Schmucker in White Cloud and she survives him. Steve had a long career in machinery beginning with General Motors Diesel Division in Grand Rapids. He also co-partnered the establishment of Fastco Industries, a company still operating in Grand Rapids that manufactures specialty fastener products. Steve later worked for Sealed Power Corp. at both the Hy-Lift and Accutex divisions, retiring from Accutex in 1998. During his retirement, Steve owned and re-built Anchor Marina on Memorial Drive in North Muskegon. Anchor Marina became Steve’s passion and he was very proud of the appearance the marina now portrays. Steve was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and was active with the Serra Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing on his property, “The Farm” in White Cloud. Steve had an inspiring devotion to the Virgin Mary and would pray the Rosary often throughout the day. SURVIVORS include his wife, Kathryn; 10 children, Douglas (Christine) Frantz of Coopersville, Kevin (Patricia) Frantz of Charlotte, NC, Theresa (Robert) Bunek of Lake Leelanau, MI, Monica (Patrick) Galla of Norton Shores, Christina (Robert) Newman of Lowell, Valerie Phelps of Coopersville, Veronica (Kevin) Schumaker of Coopersville, Lynnette Mick of S. Milwaukee, WI, Scott Frantz of Paris, TN, Brigette Frantz of Alexandria, VA; 23 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; 1 brother-in-law, Donald Swanson of Grand Rapids; and 1 sister-in-law, Barbara Lovell of Davison, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 sisters, Bernice Swanson and Lillian LeRoy. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Anthony M. Pelak as celebrant and the Rev. Fr. William F. Zink as con-celebrant. INTERMENT will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in White Cloud. VISITATION will be held 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM Tuesday evening. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass, 10-11 AM Wednesday at church. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be directed to Harbor Hospice.
