Stephen Daniel Karafa's Obituary
Mr. Stephen Daniel Karafa passed away on December 29, 2014. Steve was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on August 21, 1924 to Andrew and Mary Karafa. The family moved to Muskegon Heights soon after. Steve graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1942. He served his country in the Army from 1943-1946, spending time in New Guinea, Philippines and Japan. After the war Steve went on to Michigan State University and graduated in 1951. He worked at Danigelis Market during High School, then Continental Motors, and eventually CWC for 33 years. He married the former Faye Breen on Sept 6, 1952 and she preceded him in death only 7 days before Steve’s death. Faye and Steve raised 6 children together; 2 daughters, Susan Beachum and Peg (Joe) Pietrowicz; 4 sons, Mark (Luann), David, Paul (Eun Kyung) and Tony (Sheri); 10 grandchildren (1 deceased, Kristopher Beachum); 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Dan (Terry) Karafa; and many nieces and nephews. Steve’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Poppen Residence with Harbor Hospice. The MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held Monday, January 5, 2015 at 11 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the start of the mass. Memorial Contributions can be made to Harbor Hospice, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, or a charity of your choice.
