Stephen Paul Vanderwest's Obituary
Stephen Paul Vanderwest, 57, passed away on March 15, 2021. He was born August 14, 1963, in Muskegon to Kenneth and Shirley (Jager) Vanderwest. He graduated from Mona Shores High School, served in the U.S. Army, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University. Steve worked as an asbestos abatement specialist, bartender at Lakeshore Tavern, and coach, spending most of his years enjoying life in Muskegon. He loved his community, playing and watching sports, golfing, the outdoors, hunting, and “the cabin.” He had many, many friends. Steve was kind, genuine, friendly, and had a warm and welcoming presence. He had a deep love for his daughters, grandchildren, and family. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth, and his nephew Luke. Steve is survived by his daughters, Melisa (Daniel) Martinez of Clinton Township, Kathleen Vanderwest of Muskegon; their mother, Lisa Marra; five grandchildren, Skylar, Giana, Justyce, Rondell, and Eidrese; five siblings, Janet (David) LaPrairie, Kay (Jim) Panaggio, Kelly (John) VerBerkmoes, Valerie (Kirk) Belmont, and Ken (Rhonda) Vanderwest; his beloved German Shepherd, Beyonce; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. VISITATION will be held from 4:00 - 6:30 pm on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, March 25, 2021. Both will be held at Bridge Bible Church (5035 Henry St, Norton Shores, 49441). Interment will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
