Sterling S. Bushnell Jr.'s Obituary
Sterling S. Bushnell Jr., age 92, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 in Muskegon as a result of injuries suffered in a car accident. He was born in New York City on March 31, 1925 to Sterling Sr. and Marian (Lawton) Bushnell. He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1943 and from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he was in the U.S.N.R. V12 Program, in 1946. He married the former Greta Moore on June 25, 1955, and together they had four children. Sterling spent his career as an engineer and worked at Breneman/Hartshorn and Misco/Howmet, from where he retired. Sterling had a lifelong pursuit of knowledge, with a genuine curiosity of any and all subjects. His passion for travel and cuisine was passed down to both his children and grandchildren. Sterling understood the importance of community and the arts, and was often seen socializing at the many events Muskegon had to offer (especially if they were free!). His special interests included The Jaycees, Society of Professional Engineers, Muskegon Exchange Club, and The West Michigan Symphony. He loved to volunteer, and was a life-long blood donor. He also enjoyed travel, crossword puzzles, classical music, picking up the park across from his home, and was an avid reader. His smile brightened the lives of many! SURVIVORS include his loving wife of 62 years, Greta; children, Rick (Linda Middleton) Bushnell, Diane Bushnell, Cathy (Jon) Workman and David Bushnell; grandchildren, Emma (Frank Peterson) Torresen and Ian (Shannon) Davis; great- grandchildren, Lila and Elsie Torresen, and Maeve Davis; step granddaughters, Erin (Kevin) Sturtevant, Olivia and Isabelle; sister, Audrey Thompson. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231)798-1100. VISITATION will be held Friday evening from 5-7 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. Please visit the family’s online guest book at www.sytsemafh.com
