Steve Victor Vipond's Obituary
Steve Victor Vipond, age 61, left this world doing what he loved to do most, hunting the next big buck on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.
Steve was an incredible and loving husband, father, son and brother. Steve was a lifetime resident of the Spring Lake area. He graduated from Spring Lake High School in 1977 and two years later met the love of his life, Pam Scott. They were happily married for over 37 years. He started working at the Shell station in Spring Lake when he was 14 years old, the family business his father Vic owned. After the Shell station was sold, he worked at Vipond’s Auto Repair in Spring Lake. Steve then moved on to his mail carrier career, at the Spring Lake Post Office where he worked for 27 years.
Steve was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and bowler. He helped establish and was the president of Whitetails Unlimited Grand River Chapter for over 20 years. Steve shared his passion for the outdoors, through the Sportsmen for Youth Organization and Tri Cities Kids League. As a mail carrier, Steve connected with the community even more, by getting to know the customers on his route. He always made sure to have dog treats on hand and for years, would reply to kids’ letters to Santa, as Santa himself. Steve was a dedicated mail carrier and always made sure customers’ packages were delivered, even on Christmas Day.
Steve is survived by his mother, Terry Vipond; wife, Pamela Vipond; two children, Stefanie (Josh) Herder, Blake and Jenna (Boeve) Vipond; sister, Barbara (Pat) Brackett; sister-in-law, Debra Pelton; and brother-in-law, Doug (Vicky) Scott; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was looking forward to being a grandpa for the first time in April.
He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Vipond, Uncle, Coral Vipond, in-laws, Delores Tetlow (Frank) Scott.
Being a lifetime member of the area, Steve had many cherished friends. He had the “gift of gab” and always had a story to share. Many people were probably late getting somewhere, because Steve had a story to tell. If you ever met Steve, you would know how kind, giving, and selfless he was. Steve will be missed by all, but not by the deer!
A private family service will be held. Arrangements entrusted to The Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 213 E. Savidge St, Spring Lake, MI 49456.
