Steven R. "Steve" Dumas' Obituary
Steven R. “Steve” Dumas, age 70, passed away into the arms of his Lord and Savior Thursday, December 21, 2023 in Grand Rapids surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 28, 1953 in Ludington, MI to Carroll and Mary (Utterback) Dumas. Steve graduated from Orchard View High School in 1971 and attended Baker College for several years. He worked for Harbor Industries in Grand Haven, MI for over 20 years. Steve’s passion was playing chess. He founded and was President of the Muskegon Chess Club for many years. Steve was a very giving person and through his death and with the help of Gift of Life, many others will benefit through his donation. SURVIVORS include his sister, Linda (Larry) Bishop of Jenison; nephew, Nathan (Amber) Bishop and their children, Dawson (fiancé, Jake Arntson), Ethan, and Gabi; niece, Beth (Dave) Stone and their children, Eddie, Henry, and Hudson; niece, Amy (Daaron Jr.) Fleeger and their children, Daaron III, Colton, and Emery; aunt and uncle, Evelyn (Adrian) Coon; several cousins; and his Muskegon Chess Club family. He was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of Steve’s life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 6, 2024 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231) 798-1100. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest alongside his parents in Norton Cemetery.
