FROM: Uncle Gene Wasserman, 8-16-07
Like all of you, I will miss Steven.
I will miss:
him playing his guitar.
He would play his guitar for me even when he didn’t want to.
The cookouts where I would burn him a hot dog now and then.
The bonfires in the backyard by the pond.
And the fireworks. “We’re all going to jail”. Remember that?
But most of all,
I will miss not seeing him grow up,
and doing all the things a teenager will do,
and becoming all that he could be.
That’s sad he didn’t get the chance to do that.
It was nice,
to see him spend time with his brother Josh;
getting to know each other as brothers.
To see my wife Ann spend time with her sister Shelly,
and with her Mom, as much as she can.
Take the time to do that while you can.
It’s not easy being a teenager;
Trying to fit in, not sure who you are,
and trying to be yourself when you’re not like everyone else.
I want to read a quote from one of my favorite persons,
well not a person but a character; Kermit the Frog.
“It’s not easy being green.”
“But the song is about knowing who you are.
And in it you hear the message most clearly.
He believed that people are good and they want to do their best
and that no matter how or why we might be different from anybody else,
we should learn to love who we are and be proud of it.”
