Sumner "Chuck" Koon's Obituary
Mr. Sumner “Chuck” Koon, age 84, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021 in Muskegon. He was born in Muskegon on August 13, 1937 to Charles and Marva Koon. Chuck was a veteran of the United States Army and the Navy Reserves. He graduated from Western Michigan University and was employed by Sappi as a Lab Technician prior to his retirement in 2001. He had previously been employed by MichCon Gas. Chuck enjoyed playing golf, was an avid Notre Dame Football fan, and spent over 30 years as a local high school football and basketball referee. He enjoyed being active in his community and volunteered on numerous disaster relief deployments with the American Red Cross. On May 28, 1976, Chuck married the former Janis L. Wibalda in Muskegon, and she survives him along with his children and grandchildren, Kathy (David) Hobbs and their children, David (Lauren), Alex, and Sterling; Mary Ricchey and her daughter, Marisa; Charles (Traci) Koon and their daughter, Lexi; Kevin Koon, his daughters, Ella and Nora, their mother, Ann Koon and her son, Timothy Fehler; and Matthew (Sarah) Koon and their daughters, Madelyn and Charlotte; one great-grandchild expected in the spring; and special friend, Judy Pranger. He was preceded in death by his parents, and good friend, Jim Pranger. VISITATION will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday, November 11, 2021 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. SERVICES will be 10:30 AM Friday, November 12, 2021 at The Lee Chapel with Rev. Gerald Hagans officiating. Burial will be in Norton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the American Red Cross.
